DIGITAteLier

Innovative pedagogical models for enhancing digital well-being in early childhood and primary education.

Project
DESCRIPTION

The DIGITAteLier is a European project that promotes the digital well-being of children in pre-school and primary school, recognising that the use of technology should contribute to physical, cognitive, emotional and social development from the earliest years of life. The initiative places the educational community – teachers, educators and families – at the centre of building safe, creative and meaningful digital practices.

The project is funded by Erasmus+, as part of the European Policy Experimentation initiative, under the topic Digital Education // Digital Well-being: Putting into practice what works. It is led by the organisation Zaffiria (Italy) and has partners ArtedelContatto (Italy), Arte Urbana Collectif (Bulgaria), Cineclube de Viseu (Portugal) and La Fabulerie (France). It also involves schools and public organisations in the respective participating countries.

Project
Objectives

The project is based on three main objectives:

  1. Developing an innovative pedagogical framework — the Digital Atelier: an inclusive, scalable and replicable model that integrates the most advanced elements of digital education to promote children’s well-being in all its dimensions.
  2. Strengthening the capacity of teachers, educators and families: through training, co-creation of activities and experimentation in the school context, the aim is to equip educational communities with the tools, knowledge and confidence to guarantee rich and balanced digital learning environments.
  3. Inform and influence education policy: based on evidence gathered during the project, practical and strategic recommendations will be developed to support policymakers in promoting effective and innovative digital approaches in early childhood education across Europe.

DIGITAteLier thus seeks to unite research, pedagogical practice and political impact so that children learn, grow and express themselves safely and creatively in the digital world.

PARTNERS

Centro Zaffiria

Founded in Rimini in 1998, Zaffiria is a non-profit centre for media-education and digital creativity. It designs hands-on projects that weave together media literacy, ICT and play for children, teens and educators; as a ministry-accredited teacher-training institution, it also provides professional development for educators.
The organisation produces apps, e-books, video games and educational toolkits, and manages emblematic spaces such as the national Centro Alberto Manzi at the Emilia-Romagna Regional Assembly, LaVoratorio (a design-education hub inspired by Bruno Munari’s “Playing with Art” method) and two mountain ateliers where art, nature and technology meet. Through local, national and Erasmus+ partnerships it continues to experiment with innovative pedagogies that place creativity, inclusion and digital citizenship at the heart of learning.
